Britain's Swimmers Get Set for the World Championships in Shanghai

The World Championships is the last major long course event before the 2012 Olympic Games and a good performance there could provide Britain's swimmers with that all important psychological edge going into next year.

Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington will spearhead a strong women’s team which includes current world champion and world record holder Gemma Spofforth , Commonwealth champion Fran Halsall, Commonwealth and European champion Hannah Miley and European champion Lizzie Simmonds.

Adlington is looking to win her first world title and her domestic performances so far this year suggest she’ll be tough to beat.

The men will be led by current world champion and world record holder Liam Tancock and reigning double Commonwealth champion James Goddard.

In addition to the events in the pool, four swimmers will compete for medals in the open water disciplines where they could also secure qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games if they finish in the top ten.

The FINA World Championships take place in Shanghai, China between 16th – 31st July
