Duncan Goodhew Urges British Families to Take the Plunge this Summer

Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew is teaming up with British Gas and the ASA in urging all families across the country to get swimming. Not only is swimming a great way to keep fit with the family, and also a great way to strengthen the bond between parent and child, but being more comfortable in the water together as a family will help increase your confidence, and hopefully allow you and your family to enjoy yourselves more when on summer holiday.

TOP TIPS TO GET YOU & YOUR FAMILY WATER FRIENDLY THIS SUMMER:
1 Introduce your children to being in the water at an early age – babies can even begin parent-child swim lessons from when they’re only a few months old.
2 When on holiday, look into arranging swimming classes for yourself or your children – they are a great way of gaining water confidence and learning essential water safety skills, and many resorts and hotels offer them.
3 Go swimming together as a family. To help you get started, British Gas is currently offering all their customers the chance to swim for free – families can download their voucher by visiting www.britishgasswimming.co.uk.
4 Free swimming lessons are also available for senior citizens and under 16’s through local government initiatives – to find out more visit www.swimming.org.
5 If you’re an adult and can’t swim, contact your local pool for information on lessons for all ages. They will be able to tell you about times, dates and prices.
