Rock Steals The Show While Team USA Takes Victory At British Gas Duel In The Pool 2009

Manchester Aquatics Centre was host to biennial British Gas Duel in the Pool swimming event designed to showcase the sport's best swimmers in non-Olympic years.

The two-day meet saw eight new world records broken as the world’s top swimmers competed in straight head-to-head finals.

Britain’s Michael Rock stole the show in the Men’s 200m Butterfly with a victory over 14-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps. The Stockport-based swimmer swam a quick first 150m to take the lead, leaving the American unable to close ground as Rock touched in 1:51.46 to take five points for the E-Stars team.

Phelps claimed second in 1:52.86 with the USA’s Tyler McGill in third with a time of 1:53.17.
